Why Real Estate Agents Leave Their Brokerages

Real Estate Career

Let's face it. Being a real estate agent is challenging - whether you are a new agent making a name for yourself, an experienced team leader or if you are an agent that does the occasional deal on the side.

As a 20 year real estate veteran, I've seen a common thread over and over again regardless if you are at a nationally branded company or privately owned brokerage:

Agents need SUPPORT.

Lack of support will cause people to take action and change their direction and move to a different brokerage.

Support looks different to different people.

  • Support may mean they need a managing broker that answers questions, guides and mentors.

  • Support may mean you need help with a business plan.

  • Support may mean you need technical support.

  • Support may mean acknowledgement and personal cheerleading.

  • Support may mean you and the managing broker share the same vision/psychological alignment.

  • Support may mean you share cultural similarities.

  • Support may mean a higher commission split.

Also, what you need in terms of support will be very different depending on where you are in your career.

THE NEW AGENT When you are a new agent, you don't know what you don't know yet. The new agent has a challenging road ahead of them. They have to learn the real estate business, and they also have to market themselves, get clients and convert those clients to sales.

THE PART TIME AGENT The part time agent may only do the occasional deal, but because of the infrequency of their transactions, they may need more assistance with current trends and strategies. The part time agent may also have to deal with producing minimum sales transactions in order to stay with the brokerage that they "hang" their license.

THE EXPERIENCED AGENT The experienced agent has different needs. Often, the experienced agent likes to have master-mind sessions, and bounce ideas off of peers. The experienced agent often needs assistance on time consuming matters (like transaction management, graphic design, marketing, etc) so that they can focus on what they do best.

What kind of agent are you and what kind of support do you need?

Offering my support in all areas and types of real estate is my true passion. Helping agents help themselves become more successful is my goal.
